Iluka National Reserve - walk.

Distance: 11km return (from the caravan park on the river)
Conditions: lightly undulating solid earth trail probably good in most weather conditions.

This walk started from the southern end of the caravan park taking in the coastal path past the hotel to the marina and out on the breakwater. See if you can find the mermaid looking out to sea? Now back to the hotel and down Crown street to corner of Long. The head of the trail to Iluka Bluff in the National Reserve starts here.

The trail is through tropical rail forest and is spectacular for its strangler figs, ferns, and vines intertwined on the Tuckeroo and Banksia trees.  Under the canopy the temperature is cooler than you may expect in the open and makes for a comfortable walk. The trail is easy going on a solid base of leaf litter and is basically flat terrain.

At trail end is a car park where there are some picnic facilities. Two options here, a short walk to the beach 400m and an easy climb to the lookout via solid stairs and good path 150m.

Stopping to take in the occasional view and or snapshot and you can expect to be back at the caravan park in about an two hours having covered about 11km.
